THE ROLE OF WETLANDS IN C ARBON SEQUESTRATION AND CLIMATE REGULATION: INSIGHTS FROM RECENT RESEARCH
Keywords:
Wetlands, Carbon Sequestration, Climate Regulation, Ecosystem Services, Climate ChangeAbstract
Wetlands are among the most productive ecosystems, playing a crucial role in carbon sequestration and climate regulation. Recent research highlights the importance of wetland habitats in capturing and storing carbon, significantly contributing to mitigating the effects of climate change. This article reviews recent findings on the role of wetlands in carbon cycling, explores the mechanisms behind carbon storage, and discusses the implications for climate regulation. In addition, the article addresses the challenges and potential strategies for enhancing wetland conservation as a tool for climate action. The research underscores the need for integrated management practices that support wetland ecosystems for both biodiversity conservation and climate mitigation.
