Abstract

Genetic engineering has rapidly transformed modern biotechnology, offering unprecedented tools for understanding, diagnosing, and treating human diseases. Innovations such as CRISPR‑Cas systems, gene therapy vectors, and recombinant DNA technologies have revolutionized approaches to previously intractable conditions including genetic disorders, cancers, and viral infections. This article reviews key advancements in genetic engineering techniques, highlights their therapeutic applications, discusses ethical and regulatory challenges, and explores future directions for genetic interventions in medicine. The integration of functional genomics with precision editing has accelerated the development of personalized therapies that promise greater efficacy and reduced side effects. While challenges remain, continued interdisciplinary research is driving the translation of genetic engineering from bench to bedside.
